Thats because you have locked S on, any key you press while pressing Y to open chat is locked on until you press it again! Or maybe your using the Simple Automatic Transmission which requires you to hold S to stop & keep holding it to go in Reverse then do the same with W to go forward again.

I just installed Euro truck simulator 1 from my CD. my pc can handle directx very well, but it cant handle OpenGL. i have directx 11 since my dxdiag shows it and other games run from directx 11. but i cant switch to the directx renderer. That's may be caused by missing game file.Go to Steam Library / Right click Euro Truck Simulator 2 / Properties / Local Files / Verify Integrity of Game Files. Make sure you have the latest .Net Framework (4.7) & DirectX & Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 and use CCleaner to remove temporary files and obsolete registry paths.
EDIT: The console works in: New profile maker, Mod Manager and Edit Profile. In those menus it works no problem. As soon as you are out of that menu the console does not work anymore. I have tried a complete reinstall of the game and deleted the ets2 folder in my documents but it does not work. Its the same in ATS.

backup profiles and stuff you want to keep from -Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2 folder. then delete everything inside this ets folder. try to run game. if it does not work. try to reinstall game. base only is enough. no need to download dlc's just yet. such windows update is known to cause weird problems randomly. so who knows what will help.

Hey guys I have been playing ETS2 normally however recently I have not been able to start it up. When I launch it from steam (I tried all modes) it shows up in the Task Manager and the memory used for the program keeps on increasing till about 2GB where I go like Okay thats it and kill the program.. Go to ~Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2/profiles/your profile folder and open the controls.sii file with Notepad.
